Hayes 1.8.1b problems on Windows

So I tried to follow this (http://wiki.opengarden.org/User:PeteE/Windows_Installation_(Hayes)) to the letter. I get all the way through it but then when I follow the last link to the site I get the message:

GregV - Wow...I've never seen that one before!? Can you verify that you have a file named: mindtouch.deki.dll in your wiki's bin/ directory? (I'm sure you do...)

Also, can you give us some detail about what OS you're running as well as what version of the .NET runtime?

Maybe SteveB has a better idea of what would cause dream to not be able to load the assembly....

I have mindtouch.deki.dll.

We're running Windows Server 2003 Standard with SP2. I installed the .NET 2.0 redistributable. Afterwards I tried installing Mono 1.2.4 to no effect.

That's very strange. For some reason, .Net's fusion engine can't find the requested assembly.

I just tried it with Windows 2000 Server instead but it looks like .Net 2.0 doesn't support HTTPListener on that platform.

I installed Mono and copied Mono.Posix.dll to c:\deki-hayes\web\bin and it seems to be working now. So I'm set for now with this workaround, but it might be something to continue to look into anyway.

Thanks for the feedback. There should have been a Mono.Posix.dll included in the \bin folder. That's also where the loader was looking for it. So, I'm surprised it didn't find it...

When you copied over the missing assembly, did you overwrite one or was it simply not there at all?

Nope. I searched through the tree and just found a copy in src\redist, but there was none in web\bin where it was looking for it.

GregV - You're right. It looks like your Makefile doesn't copy Mono.Posix.dll to the bin directory. I believe in Debian Mono.Posix is already in the GAC so it finds it. I'll make the appropriate changes to the Makefile.

I am also trying to install the released version of hayes on windows. I found the missing mono dll and put it in the exe directory but still get the following. Any suggestions?

I attached the log viewer so you don't have to download the 350MB SDK to get it like I did. Follow the instructions linked to in SteveB's post to see what's going wrong.

I doubt it, but are you running the program through Mono or did you simply install it? From your post it looks like you just ran mindtouch.host.bat. Unless you edited that file to route the program through Mono I don't think you are.

I admittedly don't have any real familiarity with Mono, but from what I'm reading it is not simply a drop in replacement for .NET on Windows, meaning if you install it all .NET programs will not automatically run with that instead. You have to use Mono to start the .NET program for it to take. If you didn't edit mindtouch.host.bat to do that you're still using .NET proper and can use the log viewer.

At least that's my understanding of it so far.

That's correct. Applications are run using .Net under Windows unless they are explicitly started using "mono appname.exe".
