Remember that blog (http://blog.developer.mindtouch.com/2009/07/01/the-rise-of-the-mindtouch-apps/)that SteveB wrote up a couple of days ago? Well... It's happening all over - not just at Mindtouch. So much so, that Google is introducing Chrome OS (http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009/07/introducing-google-chrome-os.html).
It was predicted and expected for a long time, but not like this. Chrome OS is an entirely web-based OS. It runs on a customized linux kernel, but the interface is run from the web.
What could this mean for Mindtouch and the web?
MindTouch already runs 100% online, so I don't see that anything has to change here :)

Pft, I know. But Google's definitely pushing Gears, Native Client and O3D with this one. I'm just wondering if we will see even more push for Gears (I hope!) on more and more websites (Including Mindtouch? *nudge**nudge*). It's not just about offline access, but also about faster access, and less of a static connection with the server serving the page. There's more to Gears than offline apps.
What I'm surprised about is that ChromeOS will run on any standards-based browser. (As in, not Internet Exploder)
Run on?
ChromeOS is "Linux + (some window manager) + Chrome" for a netbook. It's just a quick way to get into a browser, which will be Chrome.
What they mean is "Apps for ChromeOS will run on any standards-based browser" - i.e. you write an HTML5 app. Viewing that app on Chrome on ChromeOS should be no different to viewing it on Chrome on Windows, f.ex.
I think that getting MindTouch into Gears - maybe excluding attachments - would be a fun project, and possibly something that could come from an interested hacker, rather than waiting for MT to have a customer who wants it :)

They have one... ME.
But I definitely don't have the skills to go through that much trouble. I read up on it and it seems SUPER tough. I probably got the wrong impression though. Yeah, let's hope for that.
