The next big thing from google is a Wave - http://wave.google.com/
the video presentation is almost an hour and a half, so you can be forgiven for not watching it one sitting, or even two. i don't think you'll regret the time spent though!

I love it. I watched that a week or so ago. I can't wait to see what Google has in plan for this thing. Did anyone go to Google I/O (and thus has access to the sandbox)? If so, is there any promise of adding an extension or something?
Minute marks of note:
~0:15:20 drag''n'drop images from desktop to browser and attached to web page. I've wanted this for *ages*. They say this part requires Google Gears.
~0:28:00 to see wiki-like collaboration. I like the idea/feature that when someone visits a page they've already seen they are shown what has changed since their last visit in a visual diff-like markup while someone who sees it for the first time just sees the current version without markup. Also very cool is the playback button to watch a document change over time. Both of these are concepts I think deki could implement, particularily the first one.
~0:32:00 for more extensive playback document history demo
~0:35:30 live simultaneous edits with multiple collaborators on a single document, with multiple character sets, including right-to-left.
~0:42:00 extensions (plugins) are considered first class citizens
Client side gadgets:
~0:45:00 grammar sensitive spell checker and apparantly accurate enough to correct as you type (no prompting).
~0:50:45 yes/no/maybe plugin gadget.
~0:52:00 play chess, then watch it in playback.
~0:53:00 collaborative markup of google maps page
Server side extensions:
~0:55:00

Here's the deal with Drag 'n' drop:
Google is trying to add that into HTML5, but for now you have to use gears. Frankly, just the fact that it's in there is awesome.
But if all of this could be integrated into deki, that's be awesome.
My vote on simultaneous editing is this: Only when you try to edit and someone else is editing. If you view a page and its just being edited, you would get an incomplete version and have to keep refreshing (or watch it be written). That might be odd...
Playback document is partially done already with revision history. But to be able to watch it being edited would be neat.
Of all of the things that I am looking forward to, one stands out: the translator bot that translates as you type. (nearer to the end, I don't know the exact time)
I have watched the long google wave intro movie clip. Now I started learning about this mindtouch wiki, which is sometimes not easy I found. Are there things web-based mindtouch wiki can do that google wave cannot? It looks like the page editor has more functions than google wave editor.
What about group management? This wiki seem to have some controls (which I have been looking for without luck though) on the groups and its members. I divided all members of my wiki into several groups. But then I don't know what I can do with the groups. Can I send an email to a particular group, or can I create a page that can be accessed only by a particular group? I would appreciate it if anyone can let me know where I could start learning on this.
Google wave doesn't seem to have group controls at all. That may be another difference?

I'm only minimally knowledgeable of wave, and still learning mindtouch as well, so can't offer an in-depth explanation. However with regard to users and groups: yes you can certainly mark certain pages, and page hierarchies, as only viewable to members of group A, or viewable to A and only editable by Group B, and so on. Read about user management at http://developer.mindtouch.com/Deki/FAQ/User_Management and page permissions at http://developer.mindtouch.com/Deki/...ge_Permissions
One are of difference is that with Wave you have little to no control over the look and feel whereas with Mindtouch one can change everything (given time of course. And then of course there are the apps & extensions, which are growing all the time: http://developer.mindtouch.com/App_Catalog

So what has happened to Google Wave? It seems like all the buzz has faded. I remember that I was quite enthusiastic and hopeful when the first reports and videos came out (like in the opening post here) but I think mindtouch and similar programs have always been better. Like it was already mentioned, the customization options of mindtouch are a huge plus.

Wave is being shut down: http://www.ft.com/cms/s/2/c8d0b62e-a...44feabdc0.html, some of the components are being merged into other products, and some let loose as open source

That is great to see the first post and the last..big difference..google has had many bombs and the wave was one of them but you still have to give google for a lot of innovative thinking..no matter where they got it ha.
I am also very much into apps like iphone app development, iphone app developer, ipad app development, android app development so I try to keep an eye on coming trends.
