Thread: Editing pages on iPad / iPhone

Default Editing pages on iPad / iPhone

I'd really like to edit Mindtouch wiki pages on my iPad. I understand the virtue of DekiMobile for iPhones. But the much larger iPad doesn't require a separate skin (in my opinion).

DekiWiki's page editing functionality doesn't work on the iPhone/iPad version of Safari. I assume this limitation resides in CKEditor which I believe you leverage and have no interest in recreating. Fair enough. But the incompatibility may go deeper ... don't know.

    Thanks for considering this!

Yeah, I'm bummed out too that ckEditor is not working on the iPad. I think it has something to do with how the touch interface sends click events. I'm sure we're not the only ones who want to be able to use ckEditor on the iPad. Hopefully a fix will be made available shortly by the ckEditor team.

I agree, this would be useful.

Sadly, after asking around a bit, the issue goes beyond ckEditor. TinyMCE and other editors have the same kind of problem. It appears the root cause is safari on iPad/iPhone. Hopefully the issue will be fixed at the root or the smart folks at either editor team will figure out a workaround.

Thanks for looking into it. I've posted the request with Apple and found a thread where ckEditor expects a fix on Apple's end ... "So it works like the regular version of Safari." Fair enough. While I love Apple products, I know going outside the feature set / map of what they've provided can be a LONG wait.

In the interim, can I disable ckEditor (turn off, revert to simpler native text editor, choose something else)? Or is ckEditor pretty much built into Dekiwiki? I've poked around and the only editor configuration options I could find were what toolbars cdEditor loads as a default.

Would appreciate being pointed in the right direction. Even if that direction is "dead end; move along, nothing to see here." Thanks!

Dead end - older versions of MindTouch used the Xinha editor, but I think that support for it has been removed (and I have no idea if that works on the iP____ either).
