Default Downloading Mindtouch Core not possible

    Hi,

I tried to download Mindtouch Core, but that seems not possible via http://www.mindtouch.com/downloads.
When I choose "MindTouch Core (6 supported OS) -> Source Code Installation" and click on "Start Download" I'm redirected to the page http://campaign.mindtouch.com/adv/thanks?copy=platform where the title is "MindTouch Platform v.10 - Get Your Trial Copy Today". So I don't want to download "MindTouch Platform v.10" (Whatever this is), I'd like to download MindTouch Core.
It seems that Mindtouch does more and more hide the OpenSource Version. I hope that they don't close the source in the future and make it a pure Closed Source Commercial product...

    Regards

I was about to start my own thread on this, but I'm glad someone beat me to it.

"Open Source" and "License: Free Trial" are not compatible. Where's the VM? Where's the .org? Where's the forge?

(Note: roy2k has at least changed the text to 'GPL 2'.)

What would I expect to download when I'm clicking "Ubuntu" and "Start download" - a deb? I'd expect instructions on how to add your repository to my server. And I don't actually get anything but redirected back to the main page when I click Start Download!

I'm not at all impressed. Your marketing organisation is really betraying your open-source roots. Either be a proprietary software company or don't, please.

The new website just launched and we are still ironing out the bugs we've discovered since going live. Please be patient. I can assure you this isn't a move to stop people from downloading the core version. The new site is supposed to make it easier to download, not harder.

    Hey guys -

We're still packaging up Core. They'll be ready in a few days. Mathieu sent off the packages to be built by the OpenSUSE build server - will take a few hours. The website relaunch and the product release were two huge work items, and we'll be dealing with ironing out the small issues over the coming weeks.

To address Craig's points directly: there will be no VM for Core. Only source and the Linux packages. There's a limit to how many packages Pete and Mathieu can build without going insane, and Core VM seemed like a logical choice to drop (how many of your OSS enthusiasts run production on a VMware instance as opposed to a *nix server?). The community is free to take the Platform VM and convert it to Core if they'd like - they are nearly identical.

Check back tomorrow - and wait for the official blog post on developer for the download links

    Thanks for your patience.

I'd like more info on this, actually. Would this be something I can do as a complete Mindtouch-noob?

I can confirm that the download of Mindtouch Core now works.
Why where there no betas for the community to help testing this new release as in past releases (lyons, minneopa, noatak, ...)?

@dmachiels: Its possible to "downgrade" the commercial version of mindtouch, but we are not allowed to talk about that. See this thread: http://forums.developer.mindtouch.co...ead.php?t=6902

I'd like to know more about Platform, actually.

This sounds like a return to the "That build is uncertified! FUD! Run this build!", in a way.

You will support Platform, but not Core? If a Core user wants to upgrade, is there a method, short of reinstalling?

I have found several issues with the downloads page that can cause a lot of confusion:

    __Commercial products__
It is announced as "MindTouch 2010" but if you follow "Unbuntu" and press "Download" 2 strange things happens:
    1) it is not a download, is a multi-page instructions on how to install on every platform, you have to choose "install on ubuntu" another time!.
    2) if you follow that instructions today you will end with Mindtouch 9.12.3-1 installed, not Mindtouch 2010!!. You can test that following the instructions until "Install MindTouch" and then instead of installing it with "apt-get install deki-enterprise" use "apt-cache policy deki-enterprise" to know the version it will install)

    __Mindtouch core__
    1) It doesn't say the version.
    2) In the window caption it still says "Download a free trial.."
and for me the most important:
    3) if you press "Ubuntu" it takes you to the same page of the Commercial version. So if you follow that instructions you will end with the commercial version. A "free trial" want it or not!!!!
To install the core version you has to enter "apt-get install dekiwiki" instead of "apt-get install deki-enterprise" but there is no mention of that. (By the way, you will end with a 9.12.3 version also). I'm trying to consider this an error but at least you have to admit that is a big one.

(and I have received the official announcement of Mindtouch 2010)

    Download the Platform VM.

Download the source for Core - replace /var/www/dekiwiki/ with the /web/ folder from the source bits.

    Done!

(Assuming this is pre-install. If not, then you'll need to backup your LocalSettings.php and your attachments folder.

We have not officially released MindTouch Core yet. As I indicated in my earlier post, we're still going through the packaging process. Please wait for the dev blog post officially announcing the release of the bits.

MindTouch Core is not MindTouch 2010 - yes, MindTouch 2010 is available - Core is not (yet).
