Default Showing TOC by default on *some* pages

can anyone think of a way to show the TOC only on some pages by default, and others to have it hidden?

We have a layout that allows (needs) the TOC to be shown on what we call the detail pages, but the home pages (the first page of each section) can't have the TOC shown by default or else the formatting goes to poo.

I can turn it on or off by default, but can't work out how to do it on some pages and not others.

    Any suggestions?

A template included on every page, which shows or hides it based on the page name?

Also you can use Page Properties to save wich page has to show TOC, this in combination with a global template will do the trick.
