General script/extension installation guide
I am new to mindtouch, and have spent a couple of hours (I can hardly afford right now) trying to figure out what settings given extensions require, and where to put any required support files.
For given publicly available extensions, eg, jquery2:
- what key settings are required?
- where (file system path) would the system expect to find the appropriate jquery files/jquery-plugins ?
- What key can I flick to point the system to the correct path?
- How can I tell which extensions are commercial and which ones are opensource?
Same goes for the subversion plugin, and some others ..
So far, on paper, Mindtouch is looking good .. But I am taken aback by the fact that very basic info is missing in seemingly bundled in extensions.
I believe in RTFM, so I have tried to source this information, and have been mighty surprised that almost all extensions come with insufficient information in initially enabling them ..
Would appreciate any pointers or suggestions to where or what to look for .. I am even prepared to trawl to the codes, but I am unsure what variables in the XML files would indicate the right key settings or which key settings indicate path for local/native extensions
If you look at the page for the jQuery UI extension, you'll find a section called "Install Script". You enter the home URL for your site there, hit the "add script" button, and it'll take you right to the control panel and enter the required data. For that particular script, the only thing you need to do is enter the correct manifest (which that button will do for you) and you're done. The resources are fetched from the Mindtouch servers. That's it for that one.
Next have a look at the Subversion extension. Start the same way, using the "configure extension" button on the page. The doc page tells you all the config keys you need to fill in. It's all straightforward.
For most of the Mindtouch-supplied extensions, the resources are pulled of the Mindtouch servers. For others, you may need to install the files on your system. Easiest place is /var/www/dekiwiki/extensions. Then, just point the Manifest to the appropriate file and you're good to go.
