Default User for this nonce already exists
Our company in the UK requires new wiki software and after reviewing many Ive found Dekiwiki to be by far the best. Since installing the software (Hayes 1.8.2) and running it by myself Ive now opened it up to select members of our company.

I struggled to get emails to be sent out to users when I created accounts for them whilst supplying a password. After reading you forums I found that this is something you are working on but it does work if I don't specify a password. I disabled the account created with the password I set, and created a new account of the same name with no password. The email was sent out as expected. However when the user clicked on the link in the email they were presented with the following message:

User for this nonce already exists.

We were quite surprised that your software would be using offensive language such as this and after some quick investigation we discovered this on wikipedia.
Wikipedia -Nonce

Using this definition:
Quote: In cryptography, a nonce is a random, arbitrary number that is generated for security purposes and is used one time only.
I can see why you use that word, however here in the UK Nonce has a completely different meaning in everyday language:
Quote: British slang word nonce, meaning a sex offender.
I'm sure you can understand that saying this nonce already exists may be frowned upon if seen within a company structure, therefore Im making a request for the error message to be altered or allow it to be altered in your resources.txt file.

Once I enabled the account again all was fine and the user was able to log in but thankfully no one higher up the chain of command saw the message otherwise I'd have had a lot of egg on my face.

Many thanks

Thank you for pointing this out! We have not yet localized our error strings, so there is no easy way for you to change this text. I've filed a bug on the issue for our next update: http://bugs.opengarden.org/view.php?id=2773.

Well I definitely learned something today - I'll make sure that this is corrected before the next release.

As for the error message, "disabled" accounts still exist and are used when validating usernames, so that's why it would not let you create that user.

Default Ahhh perfect!!
Ahhh perfect!!

Ive just upgraded to 1.8.2b and it has solved the problem! We are no longer 'nonces' but are infact 'registration records that can not be found'! Only thing is, I'll now have to find another way to insult my bosses

Great work guys! You're all stars!

Ohh another thought,

We were getting the message when users wern't regi.stering(odd the forum wont let me write the word regi.ster) as soon as they were receiving their registration emails. I assume this is because the registration 'nonce' expires after a set amount of time. After searching your own wiki I came across this
http://wiki.opengarden.org/index.php...r_Registration

I assume setting $wgRegistrationThreshold = "0" in my LocalSettings.php file will prevent all registration emails from expiring? Unfortunately each test I do takes at least a day to try in order for it to time out.

Many thanks

I would set the number to a high one (maybe for a year) to give your users ample time to reg.ister.
